Urban Exodus

Urban Exodus

It’s likely much of the recent migration is attributed to the pandemic we have all been enduring over the past many months, but no matter the reason, relocation from larger urban areas to places like Boise and Sun Valley, Idaho continue to rise, and demand is outpacing availability. When you consider the accessibility and reprieve of Idaho’s outdoors it’s no wonder people are opting for the available expanse in lieu of urban confines which become too stifling for some when faced with the current state of affairs we’re contending with as a result of efforts to combat the pandemic.

Whether working from home has been a welcome change, it has become a trend that’s here to stay. For many, quarantine coupled with an indefinite or prolonged ability to work from home has created an opportunity allowing our neighbors from large northwest and west coast urban areas to make the move to Idaho a desirable reality.

Industry paused for some and completely ceased for others. Gradually, real estate continued and then began to churn as Idaho bore witness to homebuyers eager to relocate after prolonged stints inside with few outdoor options available.

“Housing prices across the U.S. continue to soar, and according to Forbes, Idaho is leading the way. The Federal Housing Finance Agency reports that home prices across the nation rose 7.8% for the 12 months that ended on Sept. 30…The biggest increases in home prices were seen out West. Idaho surged the most, with a year-to-year increase of 14.4%.” (www.ktvb.com)

The prospect of relocating to Idaho has likely been on the minds of current and prospective buyers, pandemic aside. If you’ve visited Boise or Sun Valley, you know why.
